DoveLewis is currently seeking a Veterinary Technician to join our Urgent Care team!
The Urgent Care Technician will be responsible for assisting the Urgent Care DVM in seeing low acuity cases on an appointment and fast track basis. These cases are both self-screened and undergo limited screening by client service staff. This position assists in processing a diverse caseload of urgent cases, employs critical thinking in order to integrate with and assist the emergency room flow and maintains a positive and respectful attitude. A genuine love of and respect for all animals is required, as is an appreciation of the human-animal bond. We are currently hiring for swing shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide support and assistance to the Urgent Care DVM in all aspects of the urgent care service
- Use accepted veterinary and DoveLewis practices, equipment, and techniques to continually monitor and assess patients’ condition and inform attending veterinarian of any changes
- Take steps to maintain patient’s comfort through, but not limited to, maintaining a clean, comfortable environment and treating animals kindly, anticipating his/her stress and discomfort due to hospitalized setting
- Restrain and lift patients and monitor patients during exams and procedures.
- Create and approve Urgent Care appointments with limited assistance of the CSR team
- Work with triage technicians to assess eligibility of ER patients for Urgent Care services
- Complete client communication to establish patient history, discharge patients, provide client education and check clients in and out of the service
- Maintain appropriate stock and supplies in all areas utilized by Urgent Care
- Maintain a clean environment in all areas utilized by Urgent Care
- Assist Urgent Care DVM in diagnostics and procedures, including but not limited to patient restraint, managing sedation and anesthesia, blood draws, IV catheter placement and radiographs
- Enter controlled drug usage into drug log; perform and record lab work.
- Assist in medical recordkeeping and chart completion
- Regularly enter patient charges into hospital computer system and assist veterinarians’ in listing charges for procedures performed; neatly and accurately fill out paperwork
- Assist in records transfers to and from rDVMs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of veterinary practice and safety measures.
- Understanding of a client-centered practice.
- Technical skills to handle urgent medical situations and emergent patients.
- Working knowledge of veterinary computer systems to input charges and other client/animal information.
- Teamwork and interpersonal skills to work in cooperative and close fashion within critical care environment, and effectively communicate with clients and rDVMs.
- Ability to accurately record medications and inventory and ability to calculate dosages of medication.
- Ability to work in stressful situations associated with high volume, urgent care animal practice where accuracy, organization, and flexibility is needed at all times.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to have a flexible schedule and work varied shifts as needed, including holidays.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of two years of clinical experience in a veterinary hospital; prior urgent care or emergency experience preferred. Any satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training may substitute.
Wage: $26-$35.50/hour DOE

DoveLewis Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital is seeking a full-time Veterinary Technician or Experience Veterinary Assistant (Level 3) to join our Urgent Care team. Currently hiring swing shift only.
As an Urgent Care Technician or Experience Veterinary Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting the Urgent Care DVM in seeing low acuity cases on an appointment and fast track basis. Wage:
Experienced Veterinary Assistant (Level 3): $26-$32 hourly
Licensed Veterinary Technician (CVT, RVT, LVT): $28-36 hourly
This role is eligible for overnight and weekend differential pay for applicable shifts. Additional pay consideration available for VTS (ECC) or other relevant specialty credentials.
Schedule: Urgent Care technicians/veterinary assistants work 3/4 rotating schedules with 10 hours shifts. This means you have a consistent schedule that makes planning the rest of your life easy, and you get 3 or 4 days off in a row every week! Currently hiring for the swing shift from noon to 10pm.

- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Any suitable combination of experience or education may substitute for the above.
