DoveLewis Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital is hiring a Receiving Team Veterinary Assistant (Level 1).

About This Position:

As a Receiving Team Veterinary Assistant Level 1 (VA1) you will be responsible for assisting with the intake and department assignment for walk-in patients and clients in collaboration with the rest of the receiving team. This involves making critical patient care decisions while also providing clients with top-notch experience. In this position you serve as a representative of the hospital and will act with a high level of professionalism, empathy and attentiveness while connecting with clients.

In addition to the Receiving Team duties, you will also act as a VA1 supporting various Outpatient Services departments such as the Emergency Room and Urgent Care. You will be responsible for assisting the veterinarians and technicians as needed with animal restraint, maintaining a clean and sterile work environment, laundry services, stocking the hospital, assisting with lab work, providing aftercare for deceased animals, performing surgery prep, assisting with triaging and discharging patients etc.

Wage Range: Overnight and weekend differential pay is available for applicable shifts.

Starting at $20/hr depending on experience, education and certifications.

Schedule:

The position will work a rotating schedule with three or four 10-hour shifts per week. This means you have a consistent schedule that makes planning the rest of your life easy, and you get 3 or 4 days off in a row every week!

DoveLewis is a 24/7/365 emergency hospital with day, swing, and overnight shifts and requires the ability to work at least one weekend day every week.

What are we looking for in a candidate?

As the ideal Receiving Team VA1 candidate you are a personable, professional communicator with experience proactively communicating throughout a hospital or similarly complex, fast-paced environment. You are timely and able to work efficiently while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and accuracy. You value helping patients and clients by providing a prompt, high quality experience during stressful situations. A genuine love of and respect for all animals is required, as is an appreciation of the human-animal bond.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • 1+ year experience working in animal care work such as at a veterinary clinic, kennel, shelter, grooming facility, or animal daycare is required.
  • 1+ year experience working in a veterinary medicine setting strongly preferred.
  • 1+ year in person customer/client service experience
  • Understanding of animal behavior and knowledge of safe animal handling and transport practices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to accurately and efficiently record data and communications.
  • Ability to problem solve both independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience or education equivalent to a High School Diploma is required.
  • Valid Oregon driver's license for driving the DoveLewis transport van is strongly preferred.
  • Any suitable combination of experience or education may substitute for the above.
